GOOGLE DOCS
This is one of our two document repositories, the other being calbud09.wikispaces.com. The difference between these two locations is this: Google Docs is where we create and develop our own, original documents. If a resolution is drafted, if you want input on a press release, or if you want to take a crack at re-writing information that comes from this story, Google Docs is the environment where that can be done. Multiple people can view and make changes at the same time, and we can always revert to earlier versions of the document. Think of Google Docs as our own, online word processing program.

We don’t need to tell you what My Space is for. However, it is worth noting that our My Space page is primarily for search purposes, as a way to direct My Space members back to our Ning home page. Feel free to post here, but we expect most of our traffic to go to http://calbud09.ning.com

WIKI
This is one of our two document repositories, the other being our Google Docs page. The difference between these two locations is this: whereas Google Docs is where we create and develop our own, original documents, this Wikispace is where we keep official documents generated outside our group. Having them in the Wiki makes it easy to search and rearrange, even rewrite if necessary. But in the same way that ‘Wikipedia’ has become the larges encyclopedia on the planet, think of our Wiki as the encyclopedia for the California budget crisis. You will be able to find biographies, news accounts, press releases, historic records and official pronouncements.

Reed's Letter to CSU: Employee Update

Members of the California Faculty Association (CFA) have voted 54 to 46 percent in favor of negotiating furloughs with the CSU as part of the university’s plan to mitigate a $584 million cut to its 2009-10 budget. The CFA represents approximately 23,000 employees; however, only 8,800 of the union’s 13,000 dues-paying members cast ballots.

The CSU is proposing to furlough its employees (except public safety personnel) two days per month to reduce spending by $275 million and to… Continue

Furloughs, Budget Approved.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A union that represents 22,000 California State University faculty members has agreed to take furloughs two days a month to help close a huge budget deficit at the 23-campus system, officials said Friday.

The plan will require all CSU professors, lecturers, coaches and librarians to accept the furloughs, which amount to a 10 percent pay cut, over the coming academic year.

It was approved by 54 percent of the 8,800 California Faculty Association… Continue

Talk About Cramming for a Final...

Jerry Yaga is an Ethnic Studies major at SF State. He travelled all the way to the Long Beach office of the CSU Chancellor to take part in historic protests set to take off at about 10:00 am on Tues. July 21. It will be hot, sticky and contentious, but considering what is at stake, it could be the most important 'test' of their academic careers.

The Trustees will meet, in the wake of word from Sacramento that a budget deal has been hammered out by the big five. That budget deal won't… Continue

Student protest organizers from across the state, outside

the CSU Chancellor's office, Mon. night, July 20, about 11:00PM
The aborted rendez-vous scheduled for Sacramento last night had the governor and the assembly speaker accusing the other of canceling the meeting. It's hard to tell the truth here: Speaker Karen Bass has walked out of meetings with the Governor, claiming he was not serious in trying to come up with a budget… Continue

(Last updated 7.10.09)

Like the hundreds of CSU faculty members who have communicated with CFA over the past few weeks, the CFA Board of Directors and Chapter leaders are deeply frustrated with the Chancellor’s handling of the CSU budget crisis and the furlough issue, in particular.

This updated FAQ addresses the faculty’s most commonly asked questions about the Chancellor’s… Continue
